10 REASONS WHY PLASTIC BAGS SHOULD BE BANNED
Do you know each year we throw so much plastic on the
Earth that it can circle our planet 4 times! Pogo says NOW
is the time to do atti-batti-100 saal ki katti with all the
plastic materials. We are fast sliding towards the future
where plastic will rule the Earth and if you hear it quietly,
there is a giant plastic monster crying ‘Aham Brahamasmi’
HA! HA! HA! I will be the one to destroy you all.
If you can’t sense it, read on.
1. Plastic pollutes water and land
Lightweight trash can travel with the wind and litter
anything. The trees, the world oceans, almost everything!
2. Plastic does not degrade
Currently, approximately 46,000–1,000,000 recycled
plastic fragments are floating within every square mile of
the global oceans. These are consumed by marine life.
3. Plastic punishes our animal friends for no reason
at all Animals mistake plastic bags and other plastic materials
for food and consume them. Their digestive system gets congested leading to the development of health infections and death when there is suffocation. The animals may also become easily entangled inside the plastic.
4. Plastic bags are harmful to human health
Once the plastic is consumed by any of the food chain
animals, the harmful chemical travels to everyone in the
chain. It can lead to cancer or other serious health
conditions to humans.
5. Plastic bags are not easy to recycle
Pogo says no to plastic as the actual recycling rate for
plastic bags is around 5%.
6. The plastic bags are made from non-renewable
sources : This means double harm! Most of the plastic is made of
polypropylene which is manufactured from petroleum and
natural gas. These are non-renewable fossil fuels and
their extraction & the production of plastic causes
greenhouse gases, which further contributes to global
climate change.
7. Plastic is like Forever
It never degrades completely which shows that as more
of them are produced by companies, then more are
introduced into the environment.
8. This plastic is making the Great Pacific garbage
patch bigger every minute Most of the plastic materials once released into the
environment find their way into waterways and once they
are there, they finally get dumped into the oceans. The
great Pacific Ocean is one such area negatively affected
by all the plastic material. The more they are thrown into
the oceans, the more they increase causing the garbage
patch to increase in size.
9. Bans should be adopted as they are greatly
effective at reducing plastic bag waste
China banned plastic bags and four years later, the
number of plastic bags thrown into the environment had
reduced by 40 billion. India would do great too if we take
this as a new-age religion.
10. The Plastic ban would help keep our streets clean
Most of our cities are not clean because people don’t care
to know where they throw garbage. They do it in water
bodies, streets, and landfills. Places look ugly which
affects their aesthetic value.
The ban is a part of our fight for existence, this ‘Swachh
Bharat Abhiyan’ needs a desperate success. Be a true
friend of the pogo gang and quit plastic from everyday
use. This dussehra let's burn the evil of carelessness from
within and #BanThePlasticRaavan as we can't even burn it
up, this would cause more harm to nature. Celebrate your
October holidays green and watch super cool shows and
movies only on pogo. Stay tuned.
