With the world functioning in binaries, popular culture leaves no opportunity in imitating life in the form of art. Partnership between two characters have proven to be the most efficient way to incite emotion, be it humour or catharsis, amongst the audience.

The hero and the villian, a lover and his muse, the protagonist with his best friend — some of the iconic characters we remember are a pair with a strong bond that drives the story. The same has followed its way into the animated world and has been incorporated since time immemorial. Kids TV shows with duos such as Tom and Jerry, Mr Bean and Teddy, Sylvester and Tweety are some of the classics loved by people across generations.

Paying heed to its predecessors, the creators of this show revamped the slapstick genre with the fun-filled duo, Grizzy and the Lemmings. The two men behind the cartoon, Josselin Charier and Antoine Rodelet, said they had been brainstorming for years to come up with a duo to match the greats like Tom and Jerry, Road Runner and the Looney Tunes. They finally hit the bulls eye after watching a 1958 Walt Disney documentary “White Wilderness“, in which the Lemmings were shown jumping off a cliff.

With fantasy violence similar to the likes of the Road Runner, we see purposed smashing of heavy boxes on lemmings, running through glass windows, and imagining being whacked in the head with a metal bar and getting knocked out. The never ending battle of territory goes on to take the character through various settings, but guess what, the tussle never ends! That’s exactly what keeps the viewers hooked. The indigenous, quirky voiceover with puns and jabs adds the edge to the otherwise relatable angle to the show, especially made for the Indian spectators. The anthropomorphic animals create a fun-filled laughter riot for the young audience, taking them on a journey full of adventure and fun.

POGO, the kids cartoon channel wants its audience to start the New Year with pangs of laughter. That is why the channel is bringing you new episodes marathon of the show every Saturday at 2PM, 5th Jan onwards. Keep watching POGO.
