Morals are a preordained aspect of culture and are passed down from generation to generation. Creating bonds with children by telling stories has been an ancient tradition across the world. Since centuries parents, teachers and grandparents have been the mouthpiece for moral tales and lessons, teaching through wise stories such as Thenaliraman, Aesop’s fables and Panchatantra tales. However, the quintessential plot of the stories always remained to be ‘hero vs. villain’, where the former is seen fighting with demons and defeating them.

These plots have been used to showcase the theme and ideology of good vs. evil. The villianness of the arch nemesis is often depicted through physical appearances, use of animal-like features, such as sharp teeth, huge stature, dark skin and so on.

As time evolved and television came into the forefront as the medium of storytelling through movies and series, the ancient plots and themes got reused and refurbished with time to retain the essence of moral teachings while at the same time with a modern twist.

It has been analysed by a number of researches that television has the potential to control a children’s metacognitive, shared, expressive and other behaviors. Similar studies revealed that children show more interest in watching television programs which consisted of several child characters.

This is where the show Chhota Bheem pivots. Aired on the most popular kids cartoon channel, Pogo, the stories of the famed Chhota Bheem series replicate the old system of governance and artifacts to create a balance between fiction and reality. The storyline sometimes even escapes to far-fetched reality to present a larger-than-life illusion to the young audience.

The latest installment, Super Bheem Bana Vajraveer, also follows a larger than life, mystical storyline. In pursuit of a magical root called Farza, the villain, Gharoot, captures the innocent farmers called ‘vyomguras’. Set in the fictional land, kingdom of Vyom, Gharoot is a war monster who wants to grow his powers to conquer all the kingdoms of the sky. Chhota Bheem and his gang get ready to save the kingdom of Vyom and stop Garoot from getting the Farza root. Pitted against Gharoot and his minions, will Chhota Bheem and gang be able to save the kingdom? Find out for yourself on 17th Feb at 12PM.
